A straight forward, uncontested divorce suit usually takes between four to six months. There may be reasons why the divorce is delayed. It may be sensible that financial issues are resolved before concluding the divorce by applying for the decree absolute.  One point to note is that a petition for divorce cannot be presented with in the first year of marriage
