Case Study: Building mutually beneficial relationships

One of our key missions is to really understand our clients and their needs, and form a close working relationship with them. Andy Gibbons is one such client. Here we discuss with him his experience with Berry & Lamberts Solicitors over the past 6 years.

How did you start working with Berry & Lamberts?

I needed a house purchase to go through in a couple of weeks. It was a very unique situation. I called a couple of solicitors and Kizzy Packer, in your Kings Hill property team, was the one who said it would be tough but she would do her best to make it possible. And she did.

What made you call Berry & Lamberts?

You were local to me in Kings Hill. Now I will happily travel into central Tunbridge Wells for the advice I get. Although, the free parking at that office helps!

What where your first impressions of the company?

I was initially impressed with the focused and “can-do” attitude of Kizzy when dealing with the first house purchase. This initial impression has been re-enforced over the years by the calibre of the people I have worked with and the excellent advice I have been given. The service from Berry & Lamberts has not only saved me a lot of money over the years, but I feel that I am in safe hands and that there is always someone there if required, be it for business transactions and disputes, property purchase/sale or estate management (Wills etc.).

How did the working relationship progress?

After the initial house purchase, I spoke to Kizzy about issues I was having with a tenant, I have a number of rental properties. Kizzy introduced me to Paul Reader (now Managing Partner) who took the case. I had been using a different firm of solicitors for these matters but mistakes had been made. Paul took control, started again and managed to get my problem tenant out in a short amount of time.

The firm then dealt with further property transactions, prepared tenancy agreements for the properties I owned and assisted with some employment issues that I had within the company I owned.

I then needed assistance with internal problems in my business. I had started up a waste disposal company in 2012 with another shareholder. Over a couple of years I had managed to reduce my co-shareholders stake in the business to around 10%. Unfortunately, the relationship with my co-shareholder deteriorated and I needed assistance in removing him from the company altogether. Paul Reader helped me negotiate terms and process the removal of my co-shareholder.

I have recently worked with Paul to sell that business to a large international company. Paul assisted in regularising the planning issues on the site that we operated from, carrying out the due diligence exercise, negotiating the contracts and completing the deal. The sale went through last year and I could not be happier with the legal work.

What would you say to other companies or individuals considering working with Berry & Lamberts?

Do it! I have always been given sound advice by people who I genuinely enjoy working with.

Berry and Lamberts provided me with good, clear pricing information so that I knew what to expect in terms of costs. In a couple of cases there have even been nice surprises!

I would only use Berry & Lamberts Solicitors these days and would definitely recommend them to other people.
